Anastasiya Magamedova
Piano (Tajikistan)

Praised as “a bundle of dynamite, combining quiet delicacy with thundering power” (Chicago’s
Hyde Park Herald), pianist Anastasiya Magamedova is known for her “sophisticated and
thoroughly satisfying renditions” of complex repertoire. Critics have highlighted her ability to
navigate demanding works with “confidence,” delivering performances of striking intensity, lyrical
simplicity, and rich, expressive textures.
Recognized for her artistry across a wide range of styles, Magamedova has been lauded for her
ability to capture the “improvisatory feeling” of a piece while handling its technical demands and
sudden mood shifts “with aplomb” (Cleveland Classical).
Born in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, she began studying piano at the age of five and is a graduate of
the Juilliard School. She is the 1st Prize winner of the International Scriabin Competition in Paris
and the 2nd Prize winner of the International ArsClassica Competition.
Recent engagements have taken her to the Kammermusiksaal of the Berlin Philharmonic, the
Theatre of Digital Arts in Dubai, the Opera and Ballet State Theater of Tajikistan, and
Manchester’s Bridgewater Hall. Her 2014 Carnegie Hall debut led to further performances at
Alice Tully Hall, Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall, and Pierre Boulez Saal in Berlin.
A 2016 National YoungArts Winner, Magamedova has appeared as a soloist with the Alicante
Philharmonic Orchestra, Utah Symphony, American West Symphony, and Wratislava Chamber
Orchestra. She is also a Gold Medalist of the 2013 International Keyboard Odyssiad and
Festival Piano Competition (Ft. Collins, CO), a Third Prize winner of the 2015 IIYM International
Piano Competition, and a 2015 MTNA National Finalist.
In addition to her solo career, Magamedova performs in a duo with cellist Johannes Gray.
Together, they are laureates of the Concours Européen de Musique de Chambre and artists in
residence at the Scandinavian Cello School in Denmark. The duo has toured extensively across
the U.S., Europe, and Central Asia, and has been featured on Radio France Générations Le Live. They are currently recording a CD on the Swiss-French label Aparté.
Currently based in Paris, Magamedova is pursuing advanced studies at the Conservatoire
National Supérieur de Musique. She was previously mentored by acclaimed pianist Gabriela
Montero.
